Within walking distance of Tantallon House there are three pubs, one of which serves meals. An excellent carvery is offered at weekends by a local hotel restaurant. In Gilsland the House of Meg tea rooms serves lunch and afternoon teas, and there is the Gilsland Post Office convenience store with an ATM.

Walking On Hadrian's Wall
We are especially pleased to welcome walkers and we are listed on the Ramblers Association Website. We have local maps to assist your exploration and can recommend various walks around our Hadrian's Wall area. We have a washing and drying service and can also provide pack lunches. The following trails are close to us - Haltwhistle 22 Rings, Pennine Way, Hadrian's Wall National Trail, Walk Britain’s Undiscovered Landscapes in Northumbria. Near to us is New Mills Trout Farm which has been established for over 25 years and is situated in a scenic valley with two fishing lakes. At its centre is a charming 1735 mill house that contains a family home and a newly opened tearoom.

Cycling On Hadrian's Wall
Our B&B is located on the Cycle Route 72 Hadrian's Cycleway and we provide a warm welcome to all cyclists. There is a secure garage adjacent to the house for cycles and we have a large drying room for wet clothing. The AD 122 Chariot bus stops outside our door and will take you and your cycle along Hadrian’s Wall National Trail. For Bikers
Tantallon House provides a warm welcome to all bikers. There is a hard standing area for motorbikes adjacent to the house which is out of sight from the road and we have a large drying room for wet leathers. We are not far from the A686 – Penrith to Hexham, Britain’s most scenic route which is a fantastic drive.
